Multicultural

All people are welcome at our club, exactly as you are.

Our Position

Wallsend Touch is committed to providing a safe, fun and inclusive environment for all people, including those of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and communities. Being inclusive not only reflects our core values but reflects the diversity of our community.

Wallsend Touch Association has zero-tolerance for anyone that shows or displays of racism, colourism, anti-semitism, xenophobia, islamophobia, and/or any other form of bullying, harassment and/or vilification within the sport be that on or off the field.

Wallsend Touch is passionate about helping people lead happy, healthy and active lives while celebrating diversity of sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, intersex status, ability, skill, cultural background, ethnicity, location, religious or political beliefs and life stage. There is a place in sport for everyone, exactly as you are.

Why is Multicultural Inclusion Important?

A love of sport can be found in people of different races, backgrounds and cultures. Yet this shared interest can raise a number of complex issues that involve balancing a person’s cultural traditions with their compliance with social norms and club rules and procedures.

Racism can have a profound impact on people’s involvement in sport. It can affect motivation, enjoyment and levels of participation and, if unchecked, may result in inappropriate, potentially dangerous and violent behaviour. Racial harassment, discrimination and vilification have no place in Australian sport.

Hunter Multicultural Communities

Hunter Multicultural Communities Inc (HMC) is a non-profit public benevolent organisation serving established, new, emerging and established multicultural communities in the Hunter Region.

We provide social support and community programs for CALD, Multicultural communities and their carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. This helps them to live independently in their own home and to prevent early admission to permanent residential care. In addition we engage with multicultural youth groups in a variety of projects to enable them to settle and feel part of the wider community. We provide education and awareness to the community on cultural diversity, and multicultural issues.
